Sliding Doors in Public Buildings

Sliding Doors at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art

The Assignment

Automation for the entrance and interior doors of the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.

The Challenge

  • To create an entrance that comfortably and efficiently accommodates 500,000 visitors to the museum each year
  • To automate existing internal gallery doors that were in some cases extremely large and heavy
  • To install new doors that would enhance climate control and security for the museum’s vast and valuable collection of modern art
  • To create solutions that would complement the interior design of the building and individual galleries

The Solution

Besam was chosen as the supplier because of its expertise in automating existing doors and its creativity in developing solutions for unique applications. Besam’s UniSlide operator was recommended for several large and heavy existing doors, which previously had to be opened and closed manually by museum personnel. Besam created several special sliding door solutions for individual galleries featuring insulated glass, which enhanced both theft prevention and climate protection for the artwork.
